About Sue Halstenberg
Sue Halstenberg lived in Southern California her entire life. She studied Art History at UC San Diego before earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, where she studied under many accomplished artists. Sue started her career as a department store fashion illustrator with her drawings continuously appearing in the Los Angeles Times for over seven years.
She later attended workshops at Scottsdale Artist's School where she was most influenced by the outdoor figure painting class of George Carlson. Sue decided to leave the commercial art world to create paintings containing deeper esthetic values and lasting appeal. "I am most intrigued by drawing the shapes and subtle forms of a subject and always paint a value study of the entire piece before adding any color." Sue uses dramatic light and shadow to express the inner emotions of the women she paints.
Sue's elegant painting Victoria was featured on the cover of American Artist Magazine. An award winning artist, Sue was accepted as a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America. She was also a member of the Santa Barbara Art Association and California Art Club. Sue taught traditional and visionary drawing and painting at her art studio in Ojai, Calfornia.
